Piles of Leaves

Here is my new studio!

So now that the move is over I am back sewing and selling again.

I am in the process of updating www.sally-young.com, my Folksy shop and my new Etsy shop too. I have my ‘Seasons’ exhibition artworks to sell, although they need to be reframed, and it is proving a challenge to source new frames!

Here is a lovely autumnal image that seems to suit the time of year... Sally x

I'm back!

Well it’s been a while, I do apologise, but it’s been a busy old time!

The exhibition at The Fold is over, and received a lot of acclaim, so I was very happy with that. It’s a lovely place and I hope to be able to work with them again in the future. Next on my agenda is an exhibition in the craft cases at Number 8, an arts centre in Pershore, my home town. Just trying to sort out those pictures now, and I’m off to measure the spaces available this afternoon. I might add in a few accessories as well, so there is a bit more of a variety ofitems for sale. Pershore is famous (I guess!) for its plums, and the Plum Festival will be on for the duration of my exhibition, so I am currently working on a few plum pictures too! Not had a great amount of inspiration on that front, but hopefully something will evolve over the next few weeks!

Otherwise I have had a great few months – what with organising a Royal Wedding Street Party for the village, painting and planning on moving in to Andy’s flat (it’s a long process!), we had a sunny weekend in Polperro, my friends had their beautiful baby girl – Anya – who the owl mobile was made for, the Moto GP season has started (Silverstone this weekend!), ooh and I passed my CBT!

I have some plans to update the website and hopefully expand into more shops and galleries. I am planning on becoming a bit more focussed on selling! There are big changes afoot for me - i am moving out and getting a 'studio' in my brother's old room - so i am hopeful for great things this year!

Fingers crossed this rain will disappear and we’ll have a great weekend at Silverstone (hmmmmm!)

Exhibition!

Hello!

I have had a busy few weeks sewing and now my first exhibition is up at The Fold, Bransford, Worcestershire and will run throughout April and May.

The exhibition is inspired by trees and leaves, and explores the beauty of Spring and Autumn through layers of fabrics and colours of stitching. The exhibition is in the Eco Cafe and is free.

I am really happy with my work and the way it looks in the Cafe. Its a lovely place and it does great food too - certainly worth a visit!

Sewing in the sunshine

Hi world.

Well today I had my first lunch outside this year, and it was beautifully warm and sunny and I am quite sad to be back here inside.

But to update you on the sewing adventures of the past couple of weeks ... the pictures for my exhibition at The Fold are coming along really well. Just a couple more left to do now. I have photographed a few to give you a sneaky peak.

And another project I was working on was a mobile for my friends who are expecting their first baby in a few weeks time – I think it looks super cute in their lovely little nursery!

Check out my Facebook page - facebook.com/SallyYoungTextiles - or sign up for the mailing list to be the first to hear about special offers – this is a hint – I have a new picture available at a special price! :-)

Cheers,
Sally

Blossom doodlings

I am not quite sure where the time has gone since my last blog; I can’t believe it was so long ago!

February has been a great month – my friends and I have been having a Come Dine With Me competition, so there has been plenty of good food, wine and fun. I was second to cook and very glad to have it over and done with – I really enjoyed it, but spent all my time thinking about smoked fish and pistachio tuiles and how many plates I was going to need! Very distracting!

I have been doing some sewing though – I am busy preparing for my exhibition at The Fold in Bransford, Worcestershire, at the end of March. I have a ‘trees’ theme, and I did a little experimentation with blossom, but I keep getting drawn back to autumnal colours... I must concentrate on greens this week, and luscious leaves, but it was easier when the weather was bright and sunny, this dampness is less inspiring. Everything looks so dull and soggy. Our garden is full of dead plants, killed off by the snow and -20 degree conditions! The Mediterranean herbs were not happy in those temperatures.

Some blossom ideas sketched out on the sewing machine

I am also looking forward to sunnier days as I am planning a ‘Spring Sale’ and I’m hoping to have it as a garden party. I have old stocks left from last summer that will be sold off at bargain prices, so I shall let you know when I have sorted a date.

But for now I will have to return to my imagination and doodle away on the sewing machine.

a good year

Normal service has been resumed, all skiing is over for another year and the snow is being mourned... The sewing machine is out and the cone papers are ready and waiting. I finally start back at work – Jan 25th, not bad!

That’s not strictly true, as is did do a lot of cone making and creative thinking over Christmas, but the nose is now back at the grindstone. 2011 promises to be an exciting year with two exhibitions booked in – although dates still need to be confirmed. My head is full of ideas and as soon as I have some down on paper I will post them up here for all to see. In the meantime, your commissions are welcomed.

The publicity drive must being the is year too – so if you happen to have any handy contacts as magazines, newspapers or craft related places then do let me know. I need to start making some good money as we need a new car, boo, but on a related issue – I officially have my driving license back! So I will be able to drive around to tut my wares! Beware world - 2011 is Sally’s year!

Les 2 Alpes, at the creperie, yum!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I have been enjoying a bit of an extended break from sewing, but I thought I’d take a moment to update the blog! Christmas and New Year was good fun here in Wick, and we all felt very festive as we had tons of snow and it was VERY cold! Had great fun sledging with our friends and family and the village looked magical on Christmas Day. We had the dubious pleasure of being able to say we were the coldest spot in England at -20 degrees! There were burst pipes, floods and leaks everywhere, but they largely seem to have been sorted out with minimum fuss and now we are left feeling far too warm – we acclimatised to the freezing temperatures and 11 degrees feels tropical!

I have assembled some photos to illustrate my Christmas...!

With Andy on Christmas morning in my new hat, and sledging on Boxing Day.
Wick on Christmas day - just magical !
New Year's Eve was spent with friends, and I transformed into an old man for Dan's 30th birthday party.

And now we are off skiing tomorrow – I can’t wait!

Normal service will be resumed from Jan 24th, I promise.
